At his live set in Rome at The Paris Rockin party, we’ve had the pleasure of meeting dj and French producer SebastiAn, member of Ed Banger record label. His Primary Tour is a smart dj-set, with great music and incredible visuals. Could SebastiAn be the right candidate to replace Sarkozy? I would call him “Le Nouveau Robespierre”.

1)How’s life with Ed Banger? How’s the relationship with your label?

My work with the Ed Banger’s crew is quite simple, natural and spontaneous. Indeed, we all live in the same area in Paris. To me it’s not only a job but, first and foremost, it is a great friendship too. We are a family of artists, we often have dinner together and we talk about ideas and future projects. The boss of the label is Busy P, who behaves like a father to the crew. He has a lot of experience in the world of entertainment.

2)Which are the artists who have influenced your music the most?

When I was young I was very impressed by Dj Premiere. How he used to play music, how he used to produce it, was breathtaking. Generally I listen to a lot of different music. Very alternative. Another one off the top of my head is Billie Holiday.

3)What are your future projects?

I want to make another album soon, keep on remixing a lot of other artists’ tracks and continue with my tour, The Primary Tour.

4)Which singer would you like to produce in the near future?

I would like to work with John Legend, you know…when you meet someone interesting, you tell yourself: “Right, I want to produce him”. The idea comes in a second, like a bolt out of the blue.

5)Which is the artist that you dream of producing one day?
Definitively Prince.

6)We all know you’ve remixed Daft Punk: how was it working with them?
We are excellent friends, so I remixed some of their music. We are all waiting for their next album. I think that the soundtrack they proposed for Tron Legacy last year was something different from an album. It was an experiment, a new exercise.

7)How was your experience with Uffie?
We are old friends. I met Uffie when I started working at Ed Banger. She was a young girl from Miami and we became friends before starting to collaborate. The same story goes for Mr Oizo and Dj Feadz.

8)How do you produce your music?
I make use only of the computer, G5 and Cubase. At the moment, thanks to the computer, I don’t need anything else.

9)When will you release your next album?

Really soon. I’ve already started producing it. Next month I will present my new single Love in Motion together with a video.

Durante il live al party Paris Rockin di Roma venerdì scorso, ho avuto modo di conoscere il dj/producer francese SebastiAn appartenente alla scuderia Ed Banger. Il suo Primary Tour si presenta come un dj-set geniale dalla musica energica e dall’ottimo visual. Potrà essere SebastiAn il giusto successore di Sarkozy? Azzardando un soprannome all’artista francese mi viene da chiamarlo “Le Nouveau Robespierre”.

1)Come si svolge il lavoro nella Ed Banger?

Il mio lavoro nella Ed Banger crew è qualcosa di semplice, naturale e spontaneo. Infatti noi artisti viviamo tutti nella stessa zona di Parigi. Per me non si tratta solo di un lavoro bensì anche e soprattutto di una grande amicizia. Spesso ceniamo insieme dove parliamo delle nostre idee e progetti futuri. Il capo della label è Busy P, che si muove come fosse il padre della crew. Lui è molto esperto nel mondo dell’intrattenimento.

2)Quali sono gli artisti che hanno influenzato maggiormente la tua musica?
Quando ero piccolo ero molto impressionato dal lavoro di Dj Premiere, come produceva musica, come suonava era qualcosa che mi lasciava a bocca aperta. Generalmente ascolto tanta musica diversa nei generi. Molto alternativa, un altro che mi viene in mente è Billie Holiday.

3)Quali sono i tuoi progetti futuri?
Voglio fare un nuovo album, continuare a remixare le canzoni degli altri artisti e proseguire nel mio The Primary Tour.

4)Quale artista vorresti produrre nel futuro prossimo?
Mi piacerebbe lavorare con John Legend. Quando conosci qualcuno di interessante dici a te stesso:” OK lo voglio produrre”. Tutto nasce in un istante, come un fulmine a ciel sereno.

5)Chi è l’artista che sogni di produrre un giorno?
Definitivamente Prince

6)Tutti noi sappiamo che hai remixato i Daft Punk. Come è stato lavorare con loro?
Noi siamo ottimi amici e quindi ho prodotto dei remix per loro.Tutti noi aspettiamo il loro prossimo album. Penso che la colonna sonora di Tron Legacy proposta lo scorso anno era qualcosa di differente da un album. Era un esperimento, un esercizio nuovo.

7)Come è nata la tua collaborazione con Uffie?
Io ed Uffie siamo amici da molto tempo, l’ho conosciuta quando ho iniziato la mia carriera con la e Ed Banger. Lei era una ragazza di Miami e siamo diventati amici prima di diventare artisti veri e propri. Un pò come successe anche con Mr Oizo and Dj Feadz.

8)Come produci la tua musica?
Io mi avvalgo del solo computer, il G5 e Cubase. Grazie al computer ora come ora non necessito di nulla più.

9)Quando uscirà il tuo prossimo album?
Presto. Lo sto producendo. Il prossimo mese esce il mio singolo Love in Motion accompagnato da un video.
