The Pierre Bergé Foundation have dedicated their 15th exhibition to Yves Saint Laurent’s ready-to-wear line called Rive Gauche. The exhibition showcase seventy looks and has been remodeled like the first decor of Yves Saint Laurent Rive Gauche boutique.
Last year, at the Yves Saint Laurent retrospective held at le Petit Palais, mainly Haute Couture garments were displayed.
In contrast to the previous exhibition,Pierre Bergé show us Yves Saint Laurent modernity and his strong social act by opening Rive Gauche in 1966 rue de Tournon at the time women were fighting for equality. He was the first designer to open a ready to wear boutique in his name.
In 1961, he told Dino Buzzati: ” What interests me is making dresses that serves a real purpose, that can be worn by any woman.” He democratized fashion and transformed everyday male pieces, such as the shirt, blazer, trouser and the tuxedo into glamour power dressing .He is not interested in rich women but women who were active, strong and eager to seduce. He wants to create dress less expensive and accessible to a larger public.
Like Pierre Bergé once said :”Chanel liberated women but Saint Laurent put them in power”
