Christopher Lee Sauve is a New-York based artist whose creations refuse to go hand in hand with the mainstream concept of fashion.

His controversial T-shits that criticise and poke fun at the hierarchy of the fashion industry have surprisingly become collectors’ items.  The Save Anna T-shirt refers to the rumours that the prolific editor-in-chief will steph down from her post at American Vogue. Recently, the designer launched a campaign called Style to the People which encourages fashionistas to defy the “fashion dictatorship and editorial tyranny”. Naturally, there is an image of Anna Wintour with army attire which is now known as Che Anna.  Other creations include Naomi Campbell’s portrait with the words Diamonds Are Forever as well as a tribute to Alexander McQueen with the words Long Live McQueen.

The tea table is part of the two designers’ degree project at Eindhoven Academy. Their philosophy is to consider cultural nuances and mentalities when creating in order to make their designs more poignant and meaningful. Inspired by the notion of the ripple effect, similar to the butterfly effect, they created a table whose surface reproduces ripples when touched by a saucer and a cup. This symbolises the idea that every little thing, no matter how trivial it may seem at first, has the potential to grow and transform into something much bigger. So the same way a flutter of a butterfly’s wings can turn into a tornado somewhere across the world, one person can start a whole revolution.  At the moment, I think that jeonghwa Sea and Hanna Chung have reminded product designers that considering the human factor and really analysing the user can give way to magical creations.

We had presented the Italian ceramics brand Cor Sine Labe Doli few months ago. Today the label introduces other new take on the revived trend of bow ties.  The papillons are made in the Italian town of Marosica by traditional ceramicists and come in a range of different colours.  Who said that bow ties are out-dated?

Bianchi is an historical italian bike brand that produce bike for every use. Today the label presents a new release named 2011 Pista Fixed Gear. The bicycles are made in extra light aluminum in a cool and aereodynamics design. More pics after the jump.

Notting Hill based shop Wolf and Badger launched his pop up store in the Wonder Room of the world famous Selfridges, London yesterday.

With representatives from Vogue, Monocle, over-the-top PR agencies, fashion houses, and an oversized Amy Winehouse sculpture in the backdrop, the opening evening of Wolf and Badger’s pop-up store was wildly memorable.

The invitation for Wolf and Badger to set up in Selfridges’ Wonder Room Concept Store is right in line with the latest trend of ‘experience’. Experiential retailing paired with experiential marketing is the new strategy pushing brand values through the roof. On opening night, there were women standing behind cut out posters shouting, singing and sometimes droning ‘green’ words in the ears of curious shoppers. They’d drawl out, “Ecoooooooooo”, “Sustaaaaaainable”, “Plaaaaaastic Baaaags”, which made the already unconventional retail space even more quirky. Browsing through Wolf and Badger’s dark glamour-like collection, the pieces on display were oddly arranged, but eye catching. They had glass domes in the shape of a whole chicken, covering antique books. And tall glass beakers, placed upside down to cover gold jewellery and other accessories. They also had faux birdcages with digital birds fluttering behind magnifying glasses. It’s almost as if Wolf & Badger wants consumers to have more of a scientific approach- to study, examine and carefully consider the products on display before purchasing- catering to the now recession savvy clientele.

The most piquant moment of the evening was meeting designers who refused to be labelled as ‘designers’, but as creators or artists. They felt that the ‘D word’ was either misused or overused, unfairly lumping all the wannabies with the legitimates. This new wave concept of ‘non-designer’ designers fits all to well with Wolf and Badger’s mysterious concept of retailing. Simply selling a designed piece of clothing or accessory is no longer enough for the ‘experience’ craved consumer. They want to engage with the object in a new way and Selfridges’s unique pop up is now taking centre stage-lending consumers memorable treats.

Britain’s national museum of modern and contemporary art from around the world is housed in the former Bankside Power Station on the banks of the Thames. The awe-inspiring Turbine Hall runs the length of the entire building and you can see amazing work for free by artists such as Cézanne, Bonnard, Matisse, Picasso, Rothko, Dalí, Pollock, Warhol and Bourgeois.

A week ago, I visited and found just amazing the two current exhibitions about photography and visuals:

“Exposed. Voyeurism, Surveillance & the camera” until 30^th October and “A story of Deception” until 5^th Sept.2010.

“Exposed”, is an intriguing journey behind the camera under the lens of these three delicate topics: voyeurism, surveillance and violence.

Great names: Cartier Bresson, Alair Gomez, Helen Levitt, Ben Shahn, Robert Frank and Helmut Newton.

It is very well created and the curators were able to explore the evolution of the camera since its invention, with an original and interesting focus on the uneasy relationship between making and viewing images on the unbalanced and difficult line of privacy and property.

The exhibition is divided in 5 main thematic sections: the unseen photographer, celebrity & the public gaze, voyeurism, witnessing violence and surveillance. My best one is the second about celebrities with two glamorous pictures of Marylin Monroe and Greta Garbo. Such a style, in these two icons of cinema!

The second exhibition is “Francis Alys. A story of deception”. I might say it is less photographic shoking and appealing than the first one, but it is worth visiting and enjoying. Francis Alys was born in Belgium and then relocated to Mexico City, in 1986. He works with all the visual arts from photography, to painting, animation and drawing as well. Mexico is quite often at the core of his works, with a melancholic focus on the process of modernisation and the infinite cycles of promise and disappointment. His exhibition “ A story of deception” has this tone of disillusionment besides things and projects. Different his vehicles of expression for this feeling: a rough object, a tiny image, an everyday event.. a children game…

My favourite work is “Silencio”: just like on a chess board there are 100 hands that shut a speaking mouth….

It’s about 10 days now that new Serpentine Gallery summer installation is open. I went there yesterday and I took some photos. To be honest I preferred the one of 2 years ago from Frank Gehry. Anyway I suggest to you to visit this new one (designed by the french architect Jean Nouvel) because is very interesting as well. More info here.
